Just been looking at ‘Rounds’ under Exonumia, a type of bullion coin/token that appears to be minted from precious metal (mostly in the USA). They appear to be from unofficial mints, or have been adapted in some way by another mint (see N# 132193, a silver Britannia coin that has been partially plated with gold), often using official mint designs that have been enlarged/reduced or adapted in some way or some sort of satirical design.
Can someone please give me a full definition of a ‘Round’, as this appears to be just another type of precious metal token? Please tell me what the basic difference is between the two coins/tokens/rounds below? Is this just some sort of new name for a precious metal/bullion coin, commemorative medal or fantasy token thought up by someone?
