I had a small glimpse of hope that I could visit the UK and change redeem my old £1 coins to legal tender ones, but as I read along it seems like this is no longer possible since last year - unless you have a UK bank account.
I am simply wondering if it's too late for us “foreigners” to redeem our coins, or is there still hope? I have 21 old £1 coins …

Thanks!
I thought virtually all U.K. coins could be redeemed forever.
As far as a know my local banks are still redeeming £1 coins although not as frequently.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
It appears that not even the Bank of England will accept the old Pound coins now.
You might be able to play the bewildered tourist card and try and exchange them in a NatWest bank branch - I did this once with an old £5 note (though I was actually living in the UK!).
Santander is also worth trying. Go for a larger size branch. You might also possibly be able to spend them at a Post Office.
You can still use them at any of the condom machines in the washrooms at any of the various airports in and around London lol
else I tried exchanging them at several bank branches back in late 2021 and none of them would accept it which was weird because they did it without any hassles in the summer of that same year

I'm still looking for a few years and motives for my collection, let me know which ones you got and whether there's something on my swap list you'd fancy in return. Maybe I can take at least a few off your hands :)
"It is not possible to exchange old £1 pound round coins for the new 12-sided bimetallic £1 pound pieces. This service is not offered, not by any of the UK high street banks, nor by the Post Office, the Bank of England or the Royal Mint. The only way to redeem old £1 pound coins is by paying them into a UK bank account. "

I've added a total of 305 UK coins to my swap list, so go nuts! 😄
Just learned today that charity shops can still have them exchanged with the BoE, so you could ask in some of those whether they are willing to take them.

Cheers mate!
Unless I have swapped them until my mext UK trip, I might to that.
Hi all, I have the same issue. The answer is almost always a tossup. A while ago I heard that Coinstar machines in UK will still take them, so when I travel there eventually I will give it a go.
