disappointing auction

On 6/2/23 I bid on several Items from an Auction in Loveland, Colorado. I won all the items I bid on. This auction only accepts Zelle or bank transfers. Well my bank does not do Zelle, so I had to wait til Monday to do a bank transfer. They acknowledged receipt of the funds.  They said they would get the coins right out that week. Well a week and a half later I still didn't receive the coins so I contacted them on 6/13/23 they said they misplaced my items and they would go out that Tuesday. Well I am still waiting. I contacted them again on 6/21/23 and they claimed it was put in with the non-paid items. I told the they were very unprofessional and a piss poor company. They told me I was unreasonable.  Now I paid $500 for these Items. I have waited 3 weeks! am I being Unreasonable in expecting what I paid for in a timely manor?

Is this your first time with that auction house? Do you have any recourse?

The Earth is a Triangle

First and last time with this coin store. They also do online auctions thru hibid

Most auction houses would ship within a week of payment received and cleared.

Based on your communications with the auctioneers, I would suggest that you require them to ship the items by a specific date (chose an appropriate date) or issue you with an immediate full refund of your payment.

Be polite but firm, and don't use adjectives.

There is no recourse when you pay via Zelle or bank transfer. The only option you have is ask your bank for a recall, and chances are you will fail as it is up to the dealer to agree to your recall request.

I have never paid any dealer via bank transfer, as once the payment is made, it is as good as gone. My preferred option is always Paypal, even the exchange rate is not that great, but at least I have a change to lodge a dispute if I have to. When a seller asking for Zelle, Wise or Bank Transfer, I always said no to them. I would rather buy from those who accepts Paypal.

This is just my opinion.

I disagree. It all depends on who you are dealing with and buying from.

Laws exist to govern fairness in business. when payment is made for goods or services, and those goods or services are not received, the payee is entitled to a refund without conditions. Any legitimate business will honour its legal responsibilities to carry out its business in a decent and fair manner. Crooks of course probably will not.

I wish I could say your story is alarming Moose59 but I am very leery of most online auction platforms today including auction network .  A friend & I started monitoring the items these guys had listed & both of us noticed that they often re-listed the exact same items we kept track of (& thought were sold).  It didn't make sense (unless they were up to something).

We also suspected shill-bidding (an insider bidding on items that they would not win but just to artificially prop up the hammer price).  Both of us noticed that items had to reach a certain level before they were sold.  Initially, one could choose Canada Post or their high priced shipping. I chose CDN Post.  Eventually they only only offered their very high shipping service. Anyway, I finally caught on to their shady practices (after a few too many dubious "wins") & quit using them.  Since then, I have often noticed other posts by US collectors describing similar odd practices from similar online auction networks (I believe hibid was one of them).

Nowadays, I always check what others have to say about any auction platform that I may be unsure of (besides the obvious ones like Heritage, Spinks, Stacks & Bowers, etc).  Just recently, I was curious about Warwick & Warwick so enquired here on Numista if anyone had experience with them.

I was going to say I usually do not have problems online auctions. Then I stopped and thought for a moment. I won on a 1690 3 Kreuzer, when I received it I found it to be fake. But the description never said it was silver, all it said was Austrian Empire 1690, 3 Kreuzer. Well it was a 3 Kreuzer of a sorts. 😉

Piss off yes. But nothing I could do. Did I learn my leason?  ? Well…….

hello,

I would try to cancel the deal and get my money back. In Europe we have good possibilities to cancel online deals, I did three times in the last two years, every time my prepaid money came back.

(caused by:

1. lost shipment

2. differences about shipment fee

3. a Spanish auction house started a process for an export license)
