Sometimes this issue arises when trying to add a smiley.

Were you adding a smiley to the subject or body? Did  you take the smiley from the menu or were you composing it with the keyboard or pasting from somewhere else? What particular smiley?

 

What operating system and browser version are you using?

Smiley for the message field (not the subject). Clicked with the mouse. It didn't open smilies to pick any particular one. Firefox/ Windows 10

I had a similar bug this week. But I suspected a Chrome extension I added earlier. Went to deactivated and problem is now solve.
