Hotel Key Cards

Does anyone else here collect hotel key cards? If you do and you are interested in swapping, let me know. 

I didn’t know that was even possible. Normally when I check out of any hotel, I have to return the key card. How do you go about keeping it?

Agree with ashlobo. My experience is that in recent times most of the budget hotels request the keycard back.

Some take a deposit to ensure this.

I have one keycard from many years ago that is used as a bookmark.

There are hotel key cards and then there are key cards.

Almost every year we travel on vacation by ship crossing the Baltic Sea with our car on board. Every time key cards are printed specifically for us with the cabin number and our names on. Even though they write that we should return the key cards, we have never done so. Makes a quite impressing collection.

Hotel key cards are mainly used by upscale hotels, and we have only tried one of those. The key card was made of tree wood - as some phone cards also were when they existed.

If you check out from your room, they will ask you to leave the cards in the room. Just ‘forget’ to leave them.

I’m trying to think now back to how many times they’ve expected me to return the card vs. Me assuming that I must return the card 😂

That has hppened to me zero times. The card is returned over the desk by check out. And why would you like to save the card key? It's just a white plastic card.

so that's why they couldn't give me a keycard to my room when I went on holiday!

Next thing will be pub owners complaining about customers taking the used beer coasters. 😉

In case that “a piece of plastic” is very expensive and missing a few would make the business go belly up, then perhaps they should include this cost to their prices. But I guess they have already and are asking their customers to return the used plastic to save costs.

Someone forgot to order a new batch of key cards since they were not expecting people to come visit in larger numbers than during Covid. 😉

I do not collect them but could do with 2023 quarters and the Native Indian dollar
