Those fake coin collectors hoard this type of ₱20 coin (PH) and became scarce.

If we talk about coins that were used to be common in circulation, but scarce today; we usually interpret as melting almost all of coins, war, using them as rituals, and the like.

But nowadays, those FAKE coin and banknote collectors are rampant on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and other social media websites especially in India. In the Philippines, a type of coin became scarce due to fake collectors on social media that used to be common in circulation, just like those other types of the coin do; and that is the ₱20 coin from the Philippines with upper mintmark

You can see the upper mintmark of the coin that became scarce due to fake collectors here, whereas all other types of the same coin (i.e. lower mintmark) still common in circulation as of 5 June 2023.

Even my channel spoke to this problem that had been in place since those fake collectors uploaded those videos. My video here (no subtitles in English, sorry) spoke about the clarification of those mintmark alignments that were legitimately issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and became the most viral in my channel.

What about the examples of fake collectors who proclaimed that the ₱20 coin with upper mintmark as expensive, rare, and had an error?

Well, the videos about these are from:

COINS VALUE TV (from the Philippines, proclaimed that type of coin as rare and could be bought for ~US$6700)

https://youtu.be/HmogcXz4DV4 (COINS LOVER PH, also from my country; saw that type of coin as expensive online, but in turn was became influential to people and sell them to that collector and other similar ones in order to get instant money)

And others do not even research and proclaim that the type of coin could cost up to US$22,000. That is it. I hope you learned something about this one today. Thank you.

Those fake coin and banknotes collectors are when they do not research the value of the coins or just pretending to collect them and using them for clout on social media.

I think there may have been something lost in translation here.

In my view, the pertinent point is…   ‘’I hope you learned something about this one today.‘’  This appears to be a warning not to take any notice of the exorbitant prices being asked on some websites for coins that are ‘apparently’ forgeries, which is very useful to those who don't have such in depth knowledge of Philippino coin production.

Maybe this local member of our wonderful online community is just offering some advice to the rest of us, in their own way.  It's a pity we can't have some sort of log or compendium of all the forgeries that people find.

It’s not the coin that is fake. What is fake is the news that it is a rare coin.

Yes, Blue-m. The coin you saw on the photo is also a coin that was legitimately issued by the BSP. Almost all coins from the Philippines do not have mintage figures determined since 1991.

I call them “FAKE Coin and Banknote Collectors” not because they collect COUNTERFEIT coins and banknotes, but pretending to be a collector or numismatist for CLOUT only. I supposedly upload new video about the update of the 20 piso coin WITH UPPER MINTMARK tomorrow (in this link [I do not put subtitles yet]), which one of them listed on eBay and certified by the PCGS, and the cost. But I confessed that I forgot to say the real price of the coin in my view since this is becoming rare because of hoarding, wanting people to have instant money. But yes, collectors show FAKE PRICES are the cancer for numismatics.
