Hello everyone,

My friend who lives in Southeast Asia found some Chinese coins in her grandfather's attic (he unfortunately passed away about twenty years ago so at least that already eliminates the idea that they are any copies found on some well known chinese wesites)

As I know absolutely nothing regarding coins, I would need your help to identify them.

Would some of you be kind enough to help me identify them and give me a rough estimation of their potential value according to the pictures.

As she lives more than 10,000 km from here, I don't have any more information about the weight or size. We would have to get an idea from the photos.

Many thanks for your help.

Vincent

Hello

These coins are obvious modern forgeries. Unfortunately, this kind of counterfeit coins exists for years and years. These ones may have been made in the 70's or in the 90's… but it makes no difference at the end : the total value is close to zero.

Many thanks for your quick answer.

Hi.

Please, ask to your friend to put a magnet on these coins:

The original coins, wich very rare, were silver made, so they don't stick to a magnet.

If they stick, you can be sure they are forgeries…

Well, she sent me a video… At least they don't stick to the magnet.

Now it doesn't means that there are genuine…. 🤪

Thank you for the tip anyway.

Let's compare your second coin (you might generalize) to the genuine one

The genuine coin has an older (more accurate) calligraphy.
For example in the sentence 幣念紀政執國民華中, you can see the difference in style for the characters 國 and 念.
The general look of the portrait of your coin bears little relation to the fineness of the original portrait.

Corring the magnetism, these copies are usually made in silver plated brass (when there is silver...), so it is not a differentiating factor, but the weight or the thickness are usually a little different from the genuine coins.

Very informative, thank you.  And indeed, nothing to do with the original one.😆
