Y#1 Khiva coin (1 falus) AH1272-1282 missing in Numista catalog?

I have a coin that is listed in my old Krause under Khiva; it is a 1 falus coin, copper, Y#1, AH1272-1282, Sayyid Muhammad Khan.

Though it is listed in my old Krause 1801-1900, it is not in the Numista catalog, and also not to be found on the internet.

Can someone tell me more about this?

The one that comes as closest is the Y#3: N#165862

I hope you found an example of Y# 1, that would be great. (Not as good as if I had it, but I can't have all the coins.)

Could you post images of both sides so we can offer opinions? As clear as possible and cropped.

Without the images and the physical data of the coin, it's difficult to help further.

My question is: In the Numista catalog, I could not find the Khiva khanate 1 falus Y#1 that is listed in my old Krause, and was wondering if it may be re-categorized, or is just missing yet in the Numista catalog

Here are the pictures (best as I could made), and details. It is a copper coin, diameter 16-18 mm, thickness 1,5 mm, weight 1,93 gram

The person who sold it to me had a large collection of old coins from this area of the world. I assume he made a proper determination

and this is how it is listed in my old Krause, it is the Krause World Coins 1801-1900, 2nd edition, 1998. Khiva khanate is listed under Uzbekistan, together with Bukhara etc

As you said, it exists in the scwc, but without images or any physical descriptions like diameter or weight.

I found this site, with a coin really resembling yours?

I only have the 7th and 8th editions left….

Hi Sjoelund, thanks for your reaction. The one in link you sent resembles mine, but it is from a different period as the Y#1. The Y#2 is a tenga (not a falus). The Y#1 seems to be quite rare on the internet….

Do you know the reason why it is not in the Numista catalog?

The simple reason is because no one has put it in. Possibly no member has it, or the members who have it haven't entered it. Or possibly people have it but haven't entered it because they are unsure of the attribution.

Hi bjherbison, how does it work, attributing a coin to the catalog? Or maybe I just have to go through the FAQ. I never had this before, that a coin is in a Krause catalog but not in Numista. New experience…

There are several links that allow the creation of a new coin (or banknote or exonumia item). In particular, at the bottom of the search results is a message that says:

A coin is missing in the catalogue? Add it yourself!

Click the link and you can start the creation process. Some tips:

  • There are lots of fields. Fill is as many as you can. Leave blank what you don't know.
  • See other similar coins to see examples of what should go in the fields.
    • For modern coins you can often find coins created to the same specification and you can copy some of the information directly.
    • For older coins some of the inscriptions are the same so you can see the translations to add.
  • Next to many of the fields is a question mark in a circle. Click that to get instructions for the field.
  • It's a good idea to review the full guidelines before you start: Guidelines for the Numista catalogue
It's also a good idea to review the guidelines regularly as they do change.

thanks for the help!
