What do the two shades of colour blue signify?

Light blue is member hasn't been active lately.  Dark blue is member has been active lately.

Perhaps can be added an explanation with icon  Search tips

Light blue is member hasn't been active lately.  Dark blue is member has been active lately.

What's that supposed to imply? Lately is what in years, months, weeks, days and so on?

Yes. One of those.  I don't know, just repeating what I read.

Pick preferably the users displayed in a darker blue: they are the more active users of Numista and you will have a higher chance to get a positive response.

Everything is relative ….. so not precise or truthful at all. Why not discard the light blue? Or maybe say “not active since x weeks”?

I couldn't find it written anywhere but light blue also means that the member doesn't want to make swaps for the moment.  I also found some that were light blue and wanted to swap and was active in the last week. So…

Names are in light blue for members less likely to be responding quickly to swap requests.

For those interested in the exact criteria, the light blue color applies to members who match at least one of the following conditions:

  • The member didn't log in to their Numista account in the past 90 days.
  • The member didn't make a swap on Numista in the past 240 days (except if they are a new member who created their account in the past 90 days).
  • The member clicked the option in their account settings: “I don't want to exchange temporarily: my coins for swap are still visible but other members can see that I'm less available.”

Can't we get that sorted as well, active members first, inactive members second?

Perhaps can be do also here: https://en.numista.com/echanges/liste.php?ct=coin&pays=espagne&page=14 (menu “Swaps” → section “Look by issuer” → Select an issuer and click on “OK”) ?

No.  It needs to be random order that changes every time the page is opened or refreshed.  Otherwise zwork will likely never show up.

Maybe it's sorted after last login? Which wouldn't be bad.

Names are sorted randomly to give an equal chance to all members.
Sorting by last login is not possible, as not everyone is sharing the date publicly.

Done 😀

A name appearing first not necessarily has any advantage because if their note grading is not UNC or the location of their country etc but being sorted out alphabetically will show more symmetry.

I think not…

Suppose we have these users sorted alphabetically, and I look for users with UNC coins (I mark them in the list);

Auser, Buser UNC, Cuser UNC, Duser, Euser, Fuser UNC, Guser, Huser UNC..., Yuser, Zuser UNC

I look at Auser (it does not have), Buser (yes, I save it and continue), Cuser (yes, I save it and continue), Duser (it does not have), Euser (it does not have), Fuser (yes, I save it, I found three, enough for me, and I do not look for more).

I will never see the last ones, and if Zuser is always at the end, I never see to Zuser.

You will go beyond this “zuser”, if there's something you desperately need and all the previous users did not fit the bill.

I, personally, would go through all and contact them to see where I would get the best deal OR what if this auser does not contact you back, you will definitely move on to the next one. It all depends on the rarity of the item or desperation level of the getter, not how the givers are arranged.

I can't think of one good reason sorting alphabetically is better than random sorting.  Please explain the benefit.

random > alphabettical

everyone should get a chance, no reason to arbitrarily make it easier for people with early letters in the alphabet (or numbers as they are usually counted first) and make it impossible for people using letters at the end of the alphabet. There is no benefit to having the users in alphabetical order.
