Their currency has become more devalued, after years of the rand being worth around 10cents NZ (About 10 to a dollar). Its dropped to around 11.5 per dollar (1 rand = about 8.5 cents). I really think its time to retire all the coins under 50 cents and even 1 Rand, and for them to add a 500 Rand and even 1000 Rand banknote.
At these rates, the top note the 200 Rand is only worth around $17 NZD and about £8.40 in Sterling. This is very low and must be pretty useless in everyday commerce, although the country is much poorer now than it was in the Apartheid era. Still many well off South Africans must find these worthless banknotes frustrating or just not use them.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
