Sumatra - Gulden (1814-1841) [solved]

We currently have a currency for the Netherlands Indies called Sumatra - Gulden (1814-1841). However, I can see nothing to indicate that these coins only circulated on Sumatra. Looking at my rather old SCWC, they are listed under the title “Kingdom of the Netherlands” following the “local coinage” section for the EIC coins issued in Sumatra. I can't help thinking SCWC has just got these coins out of order from the other general issues. The mint is given as Surabaya, which is on Java, not Sumatra.

Unless I'm missing something, can I propose that these coins be moved to the currency Gulden (1726-1854) and the Sumatran “currency” be removed?

Thanks but that's not it. These coins were issued by the Dutch in the Netherlands East Indies in the 19th century. It seems to me that the headings and sections in SCWC have got mixed up, leading to these coins being mislabelled as Sumatran.

I'm not an expert at all, I just had the latest catalog, since you said, yours was old….. Have a good, interesting, continued research into the matter.

I believe the Krause paper catalogs are messed up in that area. (It's on my list to investigate but hasn't made it to the top.)

When they went online as Numismaster the coins are still labeled as Sumatra. (For example, KM# 279 Duit.) Either the people doing the conversion were confused by the headings or Sumatra is correct.

I think they were confused by the original headings. My old SCWC has KM#85 and KM#86 (under Netherlands East Indies) which have since disappeared into KM#280 and KM#279 (supposedly under Sumatra), so there's clearly been some revision, just not enough.
