Small billon coin ID required please (1 groschel Christian Ulrich) [solved]

6 posts • viewed 76 times

I found this today. Very similar to a coin I’ve already posted, which was a German/Austrian empire coin.

I would post that link, but can’t seem to find my old threads.

It is hovering around 15-16mm

Definitely billon, as I can read the number on the detector. Plus the colour is coming through a tad clearly.

Also wafer thin. I’m suspecting 1600’s. This coin is clearly different from the other. But I now understand there were so many German states, this was reflected in the coin variety

Any input greatly appreciated on finding out what this is

Thanks in advance!

Ok I’ve found the other thread

Yes, I think it could be this Silesian groschel of the Duchy of Wurttemburg-Oels.  ALthough it is in very rough shape, the main devices look similar:  N#80310

Thank you very much! I’ve left it in lemon juice. I gave it a light rub and it now looks very crisp in detail and silver. I’ll give it til the morning and the full details should be there

I’ll update the thread

Appreciate the response

This was the coin cleaned up. It does match up to the Groschel. Thanks again for the ID
