Error on 1890 Mombasa 1/4 Rupee?

I recently acquired this 1890 ¼ Rupee from Mombasa but it has two large blobs of metal on it? I'm not a coin collector myself so I just wondered was this an error when making the coin or has it been damaged somehow after? Thanks in advance

Post mint damage seems most likely. I guess a loop or pin has been soldered to it to use it as a button or broche.
