In Denmark the day is called “Women's International Struggle/Battle Day” (Kvindernes internationale kampdag) and the media is full of interviews with feminists that are asked how the struggle for equality is doing.
In Denmark, the rhetoric of the day is a leftover from the very socialist/communist influenced 1970's, whereas at the same time in the Soviet Union the day was mostly known for chivalry towards women in gestures such as giving flowers. Most likely because the struggle was not needed since communism had prevailed [may contain traces of irony].
Personally, I am not against this day, but I do think that most Danish women, compared to women of the World, are enjoying the same priveleges as men are - and then forgetting about the struggle for their immigrant sisters from around the World.
