United Nations Day of Hearing (March 3rd)

Today is International Day of Hearing. A day, every year on the 3/3 where there is put focus on hearingloss. Both to prevent hearingloss and what to do, when the hearing is declining.

Me, being hard of hearing myself, love this awareness day. One of my favorit days, after my birtday and Christmas. Mostly because then it's not only focus on the elderly people, but also young people like myself.

Having a few different disabilities, one thing I have learned in life, is to have some selfirony and humor, to ease all the troubles following with it.

Have some memes for the day and those who can relate (I stole them from a lot of different places), and those who can't relate: Take care of your ears 😁

I have had hearing loss since my mid-twenties.  I have spent a good deal of my life laughing at garbled jokes (to me at least), pretending to understand too many times, nodding my head when I had no clue what the person said with the thick accent, etc, etc.  Tinnitus (like a vacuum hum) was brutal for most of my life & all the typical background noises (traffic/crowds/wind) has hampered my comprehension for years.  First I got the hearing aids & then a cochlear implant. What a game changer the implant surgery was!

The comics you shared are hilarious @Jamtrup.  Got a real laugh 😃 Thanks for sharing!

On a side note:

If you wish to assist someone’s comprehension (of what you’re saying) with hearing loss, remember to articulate when you speak.  This simply means pronouncing the words correctly, with expressions. Try to include all the syllables & speak them at a decent pace (not too fast).   Don’t walk away or cover your mouth (speak in well lit areas facing the hard of hearing person).  Eliminate background noises if you can (or wait till the noises pass).

"Fake it to you make it", seems to be the motto of most of us with hearingloss 🤪

We recently had international cochlear implant day (25th February)

With CI I tought about this, I think you and my deaf friends can relate to 😂

I wish you a nice weekend colleagues and without stress.

     International Day?

I now experience these moments every day. Yes, I'm just getting used to it and it's slow and creeping.

Right ear 0%, left ear 80% hearing. One vocal cord is on strike and doesn't want to work -and the other claims that she doesn't care and won't worry about two and that's why she's pretty weird.

And this is happening now for a short period of time, so I'm slowly getting used to it, I just don't want to accept fate and I'm fighting-I still think I'll work out, I'll make it, and my fitness will improve and return to my original level.

I have it after proton radiation, and my faith and belief in people gives me the strength to believe - not to give up and above all I have someone to fight for-that's also why he put it on his coin and I wear it with dedication to doctors and nurses. ,, The hospital chaplain gave my coin to a man who wanted to lose hope,,  https://gorazduv-denar.webnode.cz/

,, There are always more ways to go and it doesn't matter how many times you fall - but it's important to pick yourself up and keep going and don't give up,,
