why on earth are these pieces listed under Exonumia? they're minted by a nation-state for use, albeit limited, within that nation-state, & they are general circulation coinage equivalent. the reference books have them listed along with the country of origin. they're certainly as much coinage as any patterns or piedforts, which were never issued for use & mostly never intended to be, & are listed in the coin section. i can see no reason why Leprosarium coinage shouldn't be included in the coin section.
personally, i'd also move patterns into a separate grouping within that nations coins issues instead of clogging up the circulating listing, again as all the reference books have them, but that's a different topic.
I totally agree with you. This was one of those decisions by Numista that I have always commented on, I think that sometimes pretending to be different does not make us better.
As you well comment, these coins are not tokens and are issued by an official State to circulate in a certain place. I also don't understand why it moved to exonumia. In all catalogs (general or specialized) these coins are considered as such.
The only point to be analyzed would be with which category to put them in the main catalog, whether to dedicate an independent period, a new type of "currency", etc...

For now we keep them in exonumia because here is the “confinment” section, but we're working on a global revamp of the menu to avoid those Exonumia/Coins issues (which we all agree about ofc)

Leprosarium coins are coins, not tokens, please move them back to coins. I know, I should not advertise for the SCWC, but there, they were also correct.

Thank you all for the feedback. I still say they are coins, & hope they move back to the coin section soon. Lastly, this from Webster's Exonumia definition; “numismatic items (such as tokens, medals, or scrip) other than coins and paper money ”.
They are not really emergency money, it was just believed that leprosy is easily spreadable through anything that was touched (which is now obviously wrong you would need prolonged exposure to infected droplets). They were made often for private institutions and had no exchange value outside of said institute. So definitely not as clear cut as you make it out to be.
At least in Colombia's case, coins were minted by the government, & exchangeable for equivalent Colombia coin/currency when the colony was closed. They are coins. As for notgeld, these were also minted by a government, usually a city or county/state although not the current national government, which was the point. There wasn't enough national money in circulation. I am not finding notgeld in either coins or exonumia? There would also be the case of ‘civil war’ (US) tokens, also minted due to a shortage of national coin, but most of what I've seen was minted by businesses, as opposed to citys or states. Are they listed somewhere?
Sorry i was not clear: it was only a “formal” rejection because the idea is tracked already, as I said I understand and we are working with admins on a revamp to fix not only this one but all frictions regarding coins VS exonumia current sections :-)

I get it; problem previously brought up & a fix is in process, but there's a lot of moving parts. & the check's in the mail! :) sorry, bad joke. Seriously, with the amount of product out there Numista does a pretty good over-all job. Just wish there wasn't such a prejudice against Kraus. Every dealer I've ever run across big & small swears by them. RIP. :(
