Today I just got my first old French medal. It is really old and beautiful. Now I want every contemporary French medal there is. I mean, just ask ZacUK!
Nice! I have not got any for ages (as any nice medals that I see these days I already have), but am sure there are others out there I would want. As a checklist for me to look at, so I don't get any that I already have, I take a picture of the (a) obverse and (b) reverse (and put each in a folder on computer desktop). Here are three images going down the obverse folder ...
That system does not always work, as for example 39a and 56a look alike.
Gosh, was not sure if anyone would look at them! I like 50a (50mm) as well, but also 50b i.e. the reverse side, as it is the only one I have with a coloured part - probably enamel. Also I like 22a and 57a ...
Reasons for 22a (50mm) are the details in the braided hair and she is beautiful and she is wearing a scary winged helmet. Then 57a (36x50mm) as it is apparently to do with the 1900 Olympics, and I have seen listings for it which also shows it in a catalogue of famous designs; also not sure if the winged angel is taking the Olympic torch or putting it in the hand of the sleeping girl !
Nice medals ZacUK - I do have 3 medals that you have in your collection too. They are 2a Bronze, 7a Bronze, 11a in Silver. I just bought them because I liked how they looked. I think they all exist in either Bronze or Silver.
