I'm a bit confused currently.
I know that people tried to get permission from the Münzkabinett Berlin to use their pictures for Numista for quite some time, because they just have an amazing collection. But it was always declined.
They had a few coins which had no copyright for some reason, but these weren't a lot.
But now, all coins I find in their online catalog have the Public Domain Mark 1.0, which basically means there is no copyright.
Just some random example: https://ikmk.smb.museum/object?id=18227706
The important text is below the picture (they misaligned their website slightly, which means some pictures sadly get over that text).
I looked at their website not too long ago with normal copyrighted pictures, but now, I can't find a single entry with a picture that doesn't has that Domain Mark 1.0.
Did they change something recently? Because that would be huge.
And as I see it, we could already use these pictures… immediately. But it would be nice to still mark them with the correct source and link instead of “source from somewhere else”.
Or is there something fundamentally that I'm getting wrong here?
