Hi !
Question: why do you think we have “Batavian Republic” or “Kingdom of Holland” as sub issuers of Netherlands?

They should all go to “Netherlands” with corresponding ruling authorities, right? Or maybe I miss something?
I'll ask the referee in parallel :-)

I am not so familiar with “modern” era in the Low Countries, but my understanding is that the geography / territory is mostly consistent from Dutch Republic - Batavian Republic - Kingdom of Holland - modern Netherlands.

I hope I do not offend any of our Dutch colleagues making such a simplification.

So as long as we are ok with using Ruling Authorities to also cover changes in governmental systems (I think you've pointed out before that we do this in other places), then the logic in calling these ruling authorities appears sound (and I think we already have a plan for splitting Burgundian Netherlands and moving parts into “Netherlands - Feudal”).

Dutch Republic has a lot of numismatic complexity due to the rich provincial and city coinages, so this should be considered as any changes are made (i.e. maybe left as-is?)

Also, the current Batavian Republic section is a mess, with coins showing up with several different currencies.  The monetary system based on the Gulden of the Dutch Republic continued to be the currency during the Batavian Republic (even if the coin specifications changed slightly).

I think either we extend the date range on the Dutch Gulden to make it (1581-1806)  and use it here, or we create a Batavian Republic Gulden (1795-1806).

I can then harmonize the existing types.

Oh. Even if it is just different name and system of government of a single country, I guess some people will be angry about this.

Indeed… but shouldnt we aim at consistency? Looks like same question than Zaire/Congo no?

I emptied Batavian Rep and Kingdom of Holland, and let Dutch as it is ;-)

I think it should work OK.

I tested by going to Netherlands and …

- typing “Batavian” in the search field brought up the 7 Batavian Republic coins

- typing “Napoleon” brought up the 23 coins of the Napoleonic “Kingdom of Holland”

However, a search on “Kingdom of Holland” (the name of the Napoleonic state that we used previously) brings up all 400+ coins of the Netherlands.

So it is a little sensitive to search terms for the “Kingdom of Holland” (1807-1815) period, but these are all somewhat rare types, with only one of them having a Rarity Index below 93.
