Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a whole collection and in it where all of these unidentified silver coins - i enjoy researching them but just wondered if anyone could straight away tell me roughly what era / location these coins are from . I know they’re all different but there are a lot of similar pieces.

kind regards

Start here for at least some of them:  https://en.numista.com/catalogue/ilkhanate-1.html

An example:  N#140375

Thank you very much - I have hundreds of these coins and similar. A lot of AE coins too - the great people on Numista always help me.

Put some of them to swap and you'll get a resounding success 😜

On the face of it, too many of these appear to be cast replicas. I would identify and authenticate each one of them before you do anything else. I hope I am wrong for your sake, but many look suspicious to my eye.

That could very well be the case - I will go through them all individually before I ever came to swapping / selling. There are many others which I am certain are genuine. I will group them together and try take some more photos to get a second opinion.

You're welcome to one - i have many of these coins I do not need them all :)

then you can make up your own mind on them being genuine. Message me your address and I will get one in the mail.

Here’s a few more pictures of other similar coins from the same collection - many many hours of research and identification ahead…

That's a great coin lot and I'm sure will provide hours of fun researching and identifying them all. I see nothing that would indicate the coins being replicas although Mongolian coins aren't really my expertise. You'll probably end up with a very desirable swap list once you're done. 😃

I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.

Wow. You have a great project to keep you busy. I too look forward to seeing your swap list once you are done.

I wouldn't have known enough to point you in the right direction because I am still learning about ancients. I would have guessed Morocco based on the star on the one on the lower left.  The one on the upper left looks more like a family than a soldier or a king, and that left-facing lion in the lower right-middle reminds me of Iran. I hope you post what you identify.

Thanks for letting us see them.

thank you both - yes will keep me very busy. I will keep you updated with how I get along,  there are even more coins I didn’t get to photograph which are similar to these.

Something to keep me busy for a very long time - and yes I may have to get into swapping on Numista. All requires time which I lack at the moment..

I like coins from Bukhara
