Issuer rarity index

Hello Numista members.

I updated one research about Numista's issuers for coins that I made some years ago.

I made a search with 20.340 open profiles of Numista users.

I made a program which read all the open profiles and count the issuers in it.

And then for each issuer, it counts the number of owners which have that issuer in their collection.

The final step is to calculate a number “Issuer Rarity Index” which ranges from 1 (most common, present in many collections) to 100 (most rare, with zero owner). The same was made for countries.

After reading the profiles, 20.340 have opend collections.

The results are listed in table bellow.

The 1.503 issuers and 4 countries in black are not listed in any collection, with 0 owners, these are the most difficult to find.

The 472 issuers and 3 countries in red are very rare, it is listed in only one colletion of the 20.340 accounts with open profile. Each issuer of red type have only one owner.

The 486 issuers and 12 countries of brown type have 2 owners, it is very difficult to find.

The 372 issuers and 7 countries of orange type have between 3 and 5 owners. It is the diffult group.

The yellow type has 837 issuers and 28 countries. It is the medium group, which issuers and countries have between 5 and 10 owners.

The 241 issuers and 60 countries in green group have between 10 and 100 owners. It is the easy group.

The 196 issuers and 170 countries of blue group are very easy to find, it have between 100 and 1000 owners.

The 15 issuers and 16 countries of the gray group are extremily easy to find. It have between 1000 and 5000 owners.

The 9 issuers and countries of white group are the most common ones with more then 5000 owners.

I think that it is a very interesting result 😀. Mainly for those like me, which collects coins by issuers.

Sorry to “mess up” your statistics but,  I have a list of coins in Numista which appear to be in my collection but are in fact labelled as  “World Coins Required”.   It is much easier to copy and paste Numista data into various search engines to reach my goals.

I wonder how many other members are doing the same?  I'm willing to bet not many.

Research always has some assumptions.  In this, one of the premises is that people register in their collections only the coins that they own.

But even if there are many users doing the same of you, it shouldn't interfere too much because the amount of collections is quite large, more than 20 thousand. 😉

Very interesting data, thanks for sharing

Agree.  Very interesting!

For me, I have only a small number of countries in my collection, but interesting to see that one is in the yellow group.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing!

I am glad I have some Vandal Kingdom coins!

This is fascinating. I love gameifying my collecting in various ways, and this provides an interesting way to do that! Thank you for putting it together.
