Hi

I have some trouble locating exact rules in Guidelines on when and how to use or to not use abbreviations/acronyms in page names.

https://www.scribbr.com/academic-writing/abbreviations-and-acronyms/

Here is one such case:

N#5079

I presume it is there for better to not use EMU in the name but full term “European Monetary Union”.

Thanks on explanation…

That's what we have an abbreviations (LINK).

But I would like to know why the majority of Euro coin descriptions seem to be direct copies of some promotion website instead of short and pregnant descriptors.

Well, that seems to be another hidden in plain site (web) site. I tend to search first at FAQ and this site is not accessible from here (yet).

Also, maybe another job for Numista robot to search for abbreviations in names…

thanks

It's in Numisdoc so I don't know if it is still part of the guidelines.

Abbreviations are not really welcome. However! Titles should not be overly long. As there is commemorated event field, that is fully searchable, it is sometimes better to leave shorter title with abbreviation and keep full name in commemorated event field.

Hello,

The section 1.1 of the guidelines mention:

Only use universally recognisable abbreviations that can be found in the list of abbreviations.

Sticking to the guidelines, I would rather call the coin “2 Euro (European Monetary Union)” and the series “10 years of the European Monetary Union”.

Concernant les €uros,, ce problème découle peut-être (pour l'instant) du fait que les recommandations ne sont pas les mêmes sur le site francophone, elles datent de 2013 sans lien vers la l liste des abréviations.

Regarding the €uros, this problem may stem (for the moment) from the fact that the recommendations are not the same on the French-speaking site, they date from 2013 without a link to the list of abbreviations.

Good point.

I still remember this thread where people were defending the usage of a professional abréviations in a website open to newbies like me (still) and this var. can be mixed with a similar word.

Always look on the bright side of life!

The requests on all coins are open. LP
