Greetings. I am here to discuss that the 5 Rupees JFK Commemorative of Sharjah should be moved from the exonumia catalogue to the coin catalogue. My reasoning is that this coin was ordered by the leader of Sharjah at the time. Though there were claims from the British he had no authority to do this. However, it goes that then all these coins were sold to a company and the company sold them. I would suggest to put these under Non-Circulating Coins in the coin catalogue in Sharjah, with a comment that states the story of these. They should not be classified as exonumia because they were non-circulating commemoratives of JFK in the form of 5 Rupees and were originally ordered by the leader of Sharjah. One could argue the similarity of these to one of the British Antarctic Territory coins, or British Indian Ocean Territory Coins Of being somewhat private issues, but also somewhat official issues. So, please vote yes on my request to put this in the coin catalogue Under Sharjah and non circulating coins. Thank you for your time and attention.
However the British Antarctic Territory coinage or British Indian Ocean Territory coinage were not actually used as legal tender. They were rather just made to sell and you could argue the same about this. Furthermore this was made as 5 rupees, the leader of Sharjah ordered them to be circulated but rather they were then sold to a company and the company sold them to collectors. So pretty much it is very similar to the B.A.T. coinage and B.I.O.T. coinage to just be sold. It is in it’s core a non-circulating coin not a fantasy issue. Finally fantasy issues were private issues made by private companies that were to be selling pieces never meant to be used. This originally was going to be used. So you could also argue it is a coin pattern. However, non-circulating issue sounds more sense full because non-circulating issues are made to be sold but not made by private organizations. This was ordered by the leader of Sharjah so if this stays in exonumia, someone would be able to argue B.A.T. and B.I.O.T. coinage should be in exonumia. You could even go as far as saying American Samoan issues should be put in exonumia. All in all I believe this Sharja 5 ruppees JFK commemorative should be put under the coin catalogue as non-circulating with a comment explaining the story. I do thank you “Oklahoman” for your post as it helped me explain my goal more. Have a great weekend. Also please vote yes for this Numista request.
I disagree completely. At the time of the JFK issue the authorizer had no authority. At the best a pretender issue with no authority. Your BAT and BIOT issues have authority…and legal tender. Something the JFK issue never had…
It is exactly where it needs to be. Exonumia. A fantasy issue with no authority behind its issue.

Well if you are arguing authority, what about the Confederate States of America coins and bills? Many would argue they had no authority as the constitution forbid anyone state from leaving the union. So, the coins and bills they made for them had no real authority to them and were not even legal, yet they still are under banknotes and coins, not exonumia.
Furthermore one could argue that the “Modern states with limited recognition” group of coin issuers are not legitimate because they are also breakaways of nations. However they are still under the coin catalogue. So why should this one not be?
However, if Krause says it is a fantasy issue, couldn’t I argue that it is a pattern? A coin that was made to be a possible new coin? Also what Krause says is not as important in this case as it truly comes down to whatever you or I believe. Many patterns are listed as fantasy issues, however it does not make much sense. If this can’t be a non-circulating coin in the coin catalogue, at least put it in as a pattern in the coin catalogue. For exonumia are not coins, but this is a coin.
There is a whole history chapter on the coin itself. Furthermore, knowledgeable referee, being from Emirates himself has put it into Exonumia. It should stay.
