Hi,

I believe the comments that identify the varieties (or Types) needs to be reviewed for accuracy.  I feel pretty timid making this request because I would think there wouldn't be any errors for such a common coin.  So if I'm off, please be gentle when telling my I'm wrong and please help me to understand these varieties.  I tried finding a simple mix-up like the “seven dots” should be “eight dots” and vice versa; but the more I tried to sort it out, the more my brain hurt.  So I'll list a couple apparent discrepancies.  Here goes……

1982-1987  The catalogue states all of these coins are KM#494.1 with Type 1 Obverse (eight dots).  But every coin I have and seen with these dates have 7-dots.  I've read that the Proofs for the early years have 8-dots, but I can't confirm.  So maybe the catalogue is correct for the Proofs.

1990 The catalogue states this is a Type 1 Obverse (eight dots).  But my 1990 has 7-dots.

I think there may be some others, but it's tough to sort these out.

Thanks

Chris

When you talk about a specific catalog entry always add a link.

Still a need here?

I believe the OP gave up and left.

I also believe the OP was correct.  Numista is wrong.

I didn't check all the year lines and comments for accuracy but I'll address the two cited by the OP:

1982-1987  The [Numista] catalogue states all of these coins are KM#494.1 with Type 1 Obverse (eight dots).

Here is an example of a 1987 coin.  It has seven dots.

1990 The [Numista] catalogue states this is a Type 1 Obverse (eight dots).

Here is an example of a 1990 coin.  It also has seven dots.

I think there may be some others, but it's tough to sort these out.

The Numista referee for Mexico should double check all the information about this coin on the Numista coin page.

These comments are no longer on yearlines or I am searching on a wrong place?

Yes, you are.  There has been no change to the coin page since the OP.  The two examples in the OP that I commented on has KM#494.1 (1987) and KM#494.2 (1990) on the year line comments.  The Comments section define both as Type 1 Obverse and define Type 1 Obverse as "eight dots on cactus pad."

Sent a request to the referee. Thanks!

Good afternoon,

I have reviewed multiple sources and images and the comments in this forum appear to be correct. I am taking the KM numbers off the year lines but leaving the descriptions off.

As always, please let me know if it is a better way and thank you!

John
