The Identification and valuation request guidelines in the forum policy could use some suggestions that would help teach and would save duplicate effort on the part of readers.

First, add information on how to identify the item before asking on the forum:

  • Use image search on Numista (explain how here).
  • Use image search on a search engine (Google, Bing Visual Search, others?).
  • Enter text from the coin into the search on Numista (coin and exonumia) and a search engine.
  • If you have an appropriate phone, download the Coinoscope and Maktun apps and see if those apps can identify the coin.

Second, in the list of information to include in the request, add:

6. Tell us how you have tried to identify the item (image search, Coinoscope, etc) so we don't duplicate your efforts in trying to identify the coin.

Third, recognize that request to identify banknotes and coins exist. The Forum policy link is the same for

Coin, Exonumia, and Banknote forums, but the forum policy only says: Requests for identifications or valuations must be published on the dedicated forum Coin identifications and valuations.

My personal list of scammers from Numista: erniemix, yvain, CassTaylor

Or go with the old-style of proving you purchased a video game:

What is the fourth word in the second paragraph in the forum policy: [___________]

Much of threads are from people who found a coin home and think it is valuable. Those will ask without reading any paragraph larger than 5 words and disappear forever.

I love to help people, and if I know a bit today is because I spent hours trying to help others on identificataions, not always I could help, but at least I tried.

I do not care if some are lazy, most of them will never be collectors anyway.

I will leave as it is.

I like your way of seeing it, you have convinced me, but for sure I'll still go on asking those people to read the forum policy and supply images and measurements😄

Another place to add these suggestions is in the automated Numista robot response to identification requests.
