This coin is marketed as “Viking” in Oslo. Bounces  between 2 and 3g on my 1,2,3g scale.22-23mm.

Any truth in this claim? Would be nice to know something about it?

No certainly not “Viking”.  Look for it in this part of the world and era. A  more precise scale is essential.

What I  meant was that they say the Vikings brought these back from "tradetrips" in the east. More fun than value? A little fun fact. I added a picture of a treasure found 50 meters from where I`m sitting right now. Viking treasure (Teisen, Oslo) where these type of coins appeared. Hope I don`t break any forum rules. Thanks again harryg

We try to help folks with identification and authenticity of coins. Where and how they may have ended up in their lifetime is another subject.

“Viking hoard” would have described the context of your question better. Very nice historical find however and probably would be most appreciated as a collection in a museum. I would love to see the rest of the individual coins in that find.

Got it harryg. I agree. As for the local treasure it was found in 1844 so they have been in a museum for a long time. But these are sold by our biggest coin shop so there is no “problem” here.  You certainly helped me out and I will register for selling and swapping. Numista is a great help.

That is probably a generic statement, not necessarily pertaining to those exact coins.

On eBay one can find common Dutch duits advertised as American Colonial coins because that type circulated in some American colonies.
