Help identifying this Middle Eastern coin - Ottoman Empire 40 Para 1916-17 [solved]

Hi,

I thought this coin may be Egyptian, but couldn’t seem to find anything matching.

size approx 24mm 

silver in appearance 

seems to have a 40 on one side 

date is 1327, which I believe equates to around 1909

any help much appreciated

Thank you - I guess I couldn’t see past it not being Egyptian ! Just needed to widen my search 👍

i‘ll try and find a magnet And get back to you if I can ….. what would the difference be if it was or wasn’t ?

There were two coins in that search that looked like yours.  One was made from copper-nickel and the other made from nickel.  Copper-nickel alloys used for coins are not magnetic while nickel is magnetic. But, since the year (after 1327) is 8 it can only be the non-magnetic copper-nickel one KM# 779.

Ah, yes, and the inscription under the 40 also matches the copper-nickel coin, so it all ties up nicely. Thanks again, cheers
