Can someone please explain to me what the differance is in 2014 20 Piso is--2014A,2014B,and 2014 C  all signed by Aquino III & Tentangco

P206a  N# 202153

The illustrations on http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/countries/ASI/PIL/PIL0206.htm#2014B show dates with those letters printed on the notes (left side, under the “20”). Otherwise seems to be no difference.

-Yes, there is no difference, other than the year & versions so you can even have 2016, 2016F, 2016G, 2016H & 2016J with the Aquino III & Tetangco signatures for 206a. Oddly enough, the Duterte-Tetangco signature change-over seems to occur with 2016 version & then the new signature P-206b continues with 2017F & 2017G (no 2017A - 2017E). The new 2016 Duterte-Tetangco 20 Pesos seems to be tough to get.

I wonder what the reason for it is though

when there is a yearcode change but nothing else

Maybe they change for each time they print notes

Each version & prefix that is issued is a one 1,000,000 run of notes.

The first versions have single-letter prefixes (A-Z) such as this 200 Pesos, but it would have had the Aquino III -Tetangco signature back in 2010 (printed in France) which the old series continued for 2 years (to 2012). By 2012, the printers in the Philippines started printing the NG series :

And then they have 2 letter prefixes such as this 20 Pesos, which likely carried over from the 2016 series when Duterte's signature first appeared (P-206b). I cannot tell you whether they went to single-letter prefix again but I have not seen any so I suspect they continued on the double-letter prefixes for the 2016 series:

Once the 2016 version was completed, the next version would have been single letter prefix (for 2017F) again:

Once the single-letter versions are finished, they then use 2 letter prefixes again.  Single-letter prefixes are much tougher than double-letter prefixes. Once they finished the double-letter prefixes, they add a letter to the year (like 2017F & 2017G). Why there was no 2017 version, we'll never know (the printers determine the system). This Bank Note Museum site shows the overview of the 20 Peso issues released. The Duterte-Tetangco signature had a much shorter run (like Duterte-Espenilla) than the AquinoIII-Tetangco or Duterte-Diokno. I hope that helps!

Thanks for your help every one - very informative

Have banknotes with the signature of the new governor, FELIPE M. MEDALLA, been found in circulation yet?

If not, does anyone know when that might happen?

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Eli M. Remolona as the next Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Remolona's six-year term will begin on 03-July-2023.

This most likely means that Medalla (current Governor)/Marcos signature banknotes will be having a very short run.

Thankyou for the heads up

best regards from down here Murray

When I was there, in March, I seldom came across the Marcos-Medalla signature combination (but that was also the case during my 1st visit: rarely saw Duterte-Tetangco nor the Espenilla signature in 2018). I ended up turning to eBay to get those 2 signature combos.

The Marcos/Medalla 1000 Piso is a great get. Congrats.

Is it the polymer one with the Eagle or a paper one with the three war heroes? The turtle is on both.

One with eagles head. Bank told my friends it was special for some reason

The Marcos/Medalla signature combination makes it somewhat “special" at this point in time because it will likely be a short run. The new governor's signature will probably appear in a couple of weeks or months.

However, overall 500 million polymer (Eagle) banknotes have been ordered by the Philippine central bank. So, they are not rare or special.

The Marcos-Medalla signature combo is still quite rare in circulation as of now, I've only seen a few in circulation; mostly 20PHP,50PHP, and 100PHP, though most of these are in XF-AU condition because they've been in circulation. I was able to find a AU 20PHP 2022 Marcos-Medalla signature combo in circulation for my collection of the NGC 20PHP Notes, it was the last note to complete my collection of the entire NGC 20PHP note date run.

As for the Duterte-Tentangco signature combination they're becoming rare in circulation probably because of how long ago these were released (aprox. 7 years ago now). I've mostly seen the Duterte-Tentangco signature combination on the lower denominations, mostly 20PHP and 50PHP, and they are in bad shape due to being in circulation for a long amount of time. And the Duterte- Espenilla signature combination is still common especially on higher denominations like the 500PHP and 1000PHP. Hope you'll be able to find one of these signatures on your next visit soon.

@NUMISMATIST-SAM2

Thanks for the update on the different signature combiantions in circulation. I find it very interesting.

Thankyou for update on notes
