Well, this question is classic, but let me explain why I want to ask this question (again).
I strictly only collect coins because I prefer the textured motifs on various coins and the metal that is the media of said motifs.
But one banknote makes me changed my mind.
My favorite design on a banknote is an Indonesian 5 Rupiah 1959. A relatively cheap banknote to buy, you can easily get it for $1 or $2 (at least in Indonesia).

The design itself or its security measure is not that elaborate - very much unlike modern banknote with its explosive colors, complex security measures, and its intertwined microscopic design - but the composition and the color scheme itself is reminding me a lot of classic ceramics, such as Zwiebelmuster or Yuan-Ming Dynasty Qinghua.

The choice of the colors that are used itself is also one of the main reason of its beauty. The center of the banknote - the yellow flower, which I can only assume is a yellow gardenia - complements the blue-indigo color scheme of the banknote. Making a stark contrast between the flower and its surroundings. Initially this contrast will catch your eye from afar, making you focused on the comparatively simple design of the flower. Once it gets your attention, it offers you the motifs around it and its complexity, so that you can enjoy it fully.
How about you?
