ITU: Uruguay (single & souvenir sheet); Paraguay (perforated set, imperforate set changed colors, 2 souvenir sheets)

What is the only city in Germany to have 2 rail stations designated as Hauptbahnhof within its boundaries?

Competition is open to everyone. Winning entry will be the first to name the correct city received at or before 8 PM, August 8, 2022, eastern US time. If no correct response is received, the first response naming any German city will be the winner. My decision as to the winner will be final. Good luck!

Rheydt

Edit: I guess Mönchengladbach is the city.

Berlin east and west?

Bremen and Bremerhaven?

They say "Pecunia non olet", but I know better...

waisaacs is the winner. The 2 cities merged in the 1970s but the name of the station in Rheydt was not changed. Congratulations!

To those who participated, better luck next time!

Thanks!  I'll say again that I always appreciate learning new stuff while researching your questions. I've never traveled to Germany but seeing how some of the train stations are almost museum like makes me interested in going.

I was going to say Rheydt but you beat me to it.  😉

congrats

Thanks Will, stamps received!  I'm a retired scientist, so I'm a big fan of all the space/science/tech themes that were so popular it seems on stamps in the 60's and 70's.  Your generosity is much appreciated.

I'm curious about the two similar sets of stamps, one of which was imperforated.  How unusual is it to see imperforated in modern stamps?  Or is there a particular reason they are produced?

Best,

Bill

Bill, Imperforate stamps are not at all unusual before the era of self-adhesives. Usually the colors were changed so they could be considered different types and usually printings were fewer. Often they were sold at premiums at the post offices and sometimes even could not be postally  used. They were printed to sell more stamps to collectors, similar to the sales of NCLT coins or coins with types of different metals. Most imperforates came from countries with bad philatelic reputations. Of course this applies only to modern stamps. Classic imperforates were issued before stamps were commonly perforated.
