Is owning Cuban bank notes out side of cuba legal?

As it is a closed currency I have heard.

Thx

Who cares, what will they do, haunt you with Fidel's ghost? 👻

Or are you talking about other countries? Maybe in the USA, the Yankees still seem to be quite touchy about Cuba.

Im on about in the uk, just curious as I know its a closed currency.

Thx for the reply tho

Hi Will Pratt01,

In my opinion, there is nothing against the law owning Cuban banknotes outside the country. The only question is if you got caught trying to take it out of the country, if this is against the Cuban law. This is in no difference to those North Korean won. I understand that due to international sanction, notes from Cuba and North Korea are banned from selling by ‘You Know Who’ online. The other thing is that in  order to protect its own currency, it may not be legal tender, once it is out of the country.

Thanks

kai

Owning a note from a sanctioned country is not the problem. The problem lies when one wishes to move the note into the US for one reason or another.

If one wishes to get a particular note from said nation certified & one doesn't live in the US then it can become a problem (ie: the note must cross the US border).  If you live outside the US (in the UK for example) then it is likely you can get the note certified at their London branch.

I've just found this out the hard way as I'd like to get a few banknotes from Iran certified by PMG in Florida.  Check this link out for the sanctioned countries as it may affect what you can get certified. My only option is to send the notes to PMG's overseas branches or just leave the notes be.

If you live in any of the 4 areas/nations listed then you may have a problem submitting notes from any nation (all items from the 4 areas will be held up at the US border). It would be better to locate another PMG outlet (London, Munich or Hong Kong).

Ebay prohibits Cuban coins and paper money from being sold on the US site, but you can find them if you know how to search for them:

Ive bought all my coins and notes from ebay… the only crime is the premium one must pay for the “contraband” lol. “jose Marti peso” or “3 pesos” is usually enough of a phrase to find the items on ebay

Cuban currency is not exchanged outside of Cuba, at least on official exchange stores. But there is not a reason for it be illegal.

On U.S., owing to economic blockage, is not well seen to own Cuban currency, and also to buy or sell numismatics at least from 2nd. Republic (1959 to date); as said on previous messages, Ebay (and other sites) block Cuban and most Socialist currencies, but as long as I know there is not a law about it, just Ebay decision.

Just 10 options: you understand binary, or you don't.
