1799 half penny. error or circulation wear? [solved]

the wear/missing detail is in the same spot on both sides. what do you guys think?

Not sure specifically what you are refering to but I see verdigris behind Britannia and some kind of an attempt to treat it. You should work on your photo skills and try to use more natural light. Try using a pure white background such as a piece of copy paper. Everything is difficult to see with the dark photos provided.

Edit. After a second look, are you refering to the 17 on the date and III on the reverse? Who can guess specifically to what happened here but this could be explained as  wearing dies with a combination of natural wear.

missing most of the III only tops visible and the other side the date is missing the 1 and most of the 7. the wear seems to inconsistent with the rest of the coin. ps sorry about the poor photo quality.

Cropped and brightened.  Looks like wear and verdigris to me.
