1774 UK ½ Penny [solved]

5 posts • viewed 139 times

I would greatly appreciate all comments regarding the authentication of this coin. The colors and the pitting on the back are of concern to me. I was initially concerned with the location of the R in REX and some of the serif styling, but after finding this reference image the design seems right. I would love to hear from someone who sees these more often. Thanks!

Weight: 9.49 grams

Your ½ p looks right to me and the Weight is near the original of 10g (9.49g) as is the Dia of 29mm (28.9mm) and being lower is due to wear so all looks ok.

Everything seems correct, and if it were to be a fake, it would probably be late 1700s counterfeit, as theres no profit to be made there these days.
