Notgeld

Strictly a question and not a judgement or critique:

Why are most German Notgeld catalog items listed as standard circulation coins, while the majority of French and Algerian Notgeld catalog items listed as tokens? I am not sure I understand the difference in classification.

To be honest a vast number of German notgeld should be in exonumia. The so called ‘Serienscheine’, the ones that came in series with fancy pictures were never intended to circulate and often were backed by nothing … intended to be sold and just to make money. I have also seen some bills that were made to generate funding for societies and clubs.

All Notgeld should be in the main catalogues, not under ‘Exonumia’.
