I've had this note for a long time and I've never identified it. It could be a counterfeit but I highly doubt it. I think someone used tape on the back to “hold” it together. If anyone has any idea as to what this is, it'd be much appreciated. “State of Maryland” “Commercial Bank of Millington Five Dollars Millington Cash”
Hopefully someone here can help you but if not, you may want to try seeking out assistance at the Paper Money Forum. Keep in mind that it is pretty tough to ascertain whether a note is legit or fake from a photo but there may be some clues that an expert could help you with. There are many collectors of US obsolete banknotes who I'm sure would be able to help you out over at the PMF should nobody step up here.
Are the signatures oxidized to a brown color? Is the paper weakened or holed at the point of the signature? If yes, that is an excellent test of suthenticity, and would warrant you taking the note to a show or a paper money dealer for more information…
