Hello, there is a missing variant of this coin - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces782.html
I own a coin dated "78" on star, but it's proof. Only regular type in numista catalog. Since the year list is locked for editing, please add "78" on star; proof variant. Thanks
From time to time a Spanish coin from the late seventies with impossible characteristics appears on Numista.
In those years an employee of the mint, with the help of some accomplices, minted coins by mixing dies and flans. They sold the resulting monsters on the numismatic market. They ended up in jail.
They minted the 5 pesetas 1975*78 in gold, silver and copper blank, as far as is known.
How much does yours weigh and measure? If it is cupro-nickel, the weight must be 5.75 g, the diameter 23 mm. and the thickness 1.5 mm. If it's silver with high fineness and the measurements are correct, it will weigh 6.2 ~ 6.3g.
In the 1970s, the FNMT mint did not have the technology to make proof coins. The closest thing they did was what they called matted relief or ARM. Almost every year they sold the circulation series in ARM in little wallets. In 1978 it was not done.

Thanks for the interesting info. I don't have a precise scale at the moment, but I'll measure it as soon as possible. Diameter is exactly 23mm. Could be 1975*78 silver as you mentioned, but I have to scale it first. I'll provide better pictures if necessary.
