Another strange find during the garden dig [solved]

Further to my question on this forum about a button with OUR OWN MAKE stamped on it, which you guys solved very quickly, another item has been found which also needs your brain power to solve.

We think it is part of a stud. It is about 20mm in diameter and around 4mm high. There is a raised central uplift but with a 4 pointed star leading away from the uplift with a pattern around the edge. Photographs below. Anyone have any ideas please.

Could it be a cloth-seal (in German "Tuchplombe")? https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuchplombe
Quite certain there was a nail attached to it and it was a decoration on a piece of furniture

Even without the subject title I would have said it was off some gardening equipment.
Maybe I had seen it when round grandparent's house years ago.
Cannot immediately recall what it was on - or how it was fixed - maybe the curly
edges were pressed round something to hold it on. I would call it an
end cap / boss/ finial / ferrule
or something like that. Wish I could remember where I had seen one before -
unless it was something else I was thinking of. Looks more decorative than practical.
Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
One guess is it looks too delicate to be used on say a spade in the garden -
but maybe placed on the end of the wooden handle of a trowel. A machine would cut a round
groove into which the item would be slotted, with maybe a dab of glue as well for security.
Which may be what that brown colour is underneath it. Here are modern equivalents ...
