I just got this coin in a swap (it was marked "large date" in the swap) and I already had one in my collection, which I got as a "small date" in a swap years ago. The dates are exactly the same size, so now I'm asking if any of you have a large and a small date coin, so we can set up a documentation of the differences.
Here is the best grade coin of the two (either large or small date?)
Quote: "Sjoelund"Thanks again, your catalog seems to be able to kill some not documented varieties in Numista..... how many nobody knows!
Not to quickly Ole. There are two major Belgian catalogs. Here's a scan from the other one and this one does indeed mention a large date (104) and a small date (104a) for 1856:
I know now that two catalog exist, the referees have the catalogs and will put order in those two cases, as such I'm out of the renovation work on the Belgian coins. It's better that the people with the sources, the knowledge and easy access to other specialist do the actual work.
It might even be possible for them to find the variant coins mentioned in the catalogs, make images and then document the varieties, I can help with that. That would really be nice, wouldn't it?

You know I'm a lover of varieties too so yes it would be very nice. Unfortunately I haven't added yet my Belgian collection to my Numista database so providing pictures is a bit difficult for me right now. As soon as I start adding Europe to my Numista database I certainly keep an eye on coins with varieties, to provide pictures if I can.

That's the spirit, thanks, time is unlimited like the future used to be....
