Hello everyone, I have a question/doubt that I would like to be able to consult with everyone. I have the option to create some coin pages, but I don't have the option to get images of my own or from authorized websites.
Which option do you think is better?
1. Create the page without the image of the coin (or bill).
2. Create the page with a single-sided image (if I only have the option to get an image of one side).
3. Do not create a page without an image or with a single-sided image.
I await your opinions.

Catalogue should be as complete as possible. That being the case, it's better to have a listing without an image (until one becomes available), than no listing at all!
The basic requirement should be enough information to identify the coin and distinguish the type from all other types.
In some cases country, denomination, year would be unique. That and a simple description wouldn't be a good entry, but it would create a framework for further improvements and let people identify a coin type.
In other cases every field could be filled in with correct information and lots of text, but the listing would be deficient because it doesn't include particular information that distinguishes the type from a similar design issued the same year.
Definitely better to have an entry without pictures than nothing at all. Of course we'd like a description too but if a page exists, others may come in and add those later.

It is fine to create a page without pictures on some conditions:
no pictures are available (obviously), or none from authorized sources
that is often the case for some ancient coins or some specific rare types

the rest of info is complete: title, date, composition, description, lettering, etc.
1 or 2 details could be missing of course...it happens
If it is a page with only title, weight and date...it is useless and should not be created until more information is available.
If only one side is available, better to have it on the page than having nothing.
I guess we could also create some collaborative thread somewhere on the forum requesting for missing pictures from members - same way as cropping improvements, etc.

Would it useful to generate a page of "here are coins you can provide picture for"?
Compare the list of coins without pictures with the coins each person claims to own and generate the overlap. Don't shove the list in the user's face all the time, but put a link to the list in places users will see.
When viewing a page without a picture there's a suggestion to add the page. If the coin is in the user's collection make the notice larger and say "You have the coin, can you take a picture?".

Perhaps useful.
You can create a separate thread to suggest the idea and launch the discussion to see if it has support.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for your contribution to this topic. I have been reading all the answers and, seeing what has been said here, I think I already have enough information to be able to create new entries, Of course, the information on the new page must be enough to be able to distinguish the coin to which it refers otherwise, it would be a new useless page that would impoverish the catalog instead of improving it.

Hi
If I can kidnap this thread for a small proposal. New coins, which are announced to be issued in some time (couple of months), many such cases with EU 2 EUR and higher value commemorative coins and where pictures are not yet available, but the rest of the data is, can also be added to the Catalogue. In such cases it would be nice to have an extra field "Given to circulation" or "Issued at", which describes a date when these coins will be available to public, besides the field "Demonetized". Its kind of a funny thing seeing new entries of coins in the Catalogue, which are not yet published and no one can swap them.
Any thoughts on this one?

I am leery about Numita listings of announced but unissued coins. I do want to learn about upcoming issues, but planned issues don't always get issued and don't always get issued with the date originally announced. There's lots of information on Numista that needs to be cleaned-up -- this would add more.

No,
new coins should always have an image made by the person adding it, we want to be sure they exist!

I have to agree with @Sjoelund, the whole premise behind Numista as a participatory catalogue is that there are pages here for any given member to put together a list of the coins in their collection. And if your coin is not listed in the catalogue, then there is an option to add your coin to the catalogue, including images of both sides as confirmation that the coin exists. What could be simpler?
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Recently I had a 2 EUR Slovenian commemorative coin, which was issued (as they usually are, since the coins are also announced in state bulletin), but was requested like 5 months or more before the issue. I had that request opened all that time and it was very annoying. By the time the coin got published, another user added a request. So I had to play a polite referee to the second user, whose request I had to cancel and BTW he is a great person and adds very much stuff on Numista. I understand your positions and I try to go along, but as stated its strange, to say at least - hence the proposal...

I see, you want your counter of contributions to go up? A very honorable goal.

That was an uncalled for rude comment, and doesn't agree with the facts in the post. The second request was cancelled because the previous request had approved. Not cancelling the second request would have resulted in a duplicate entry.
But the problem here is the delay in approving the request, which has been covered in several other topic.

To me it sounded like the first request was your request, if it wasn't then you have all my excuses. Sorry.

Hi
Don't worry, I know your views by reading this forum, so nothing bad taken - I also thought the same as our colleague bjehrbison. I have several hundreds of pieces of Exonumia to add, so I am not in a hurry for new local coin entries as there are many users who are also keen in adding new coins, do not collect notes or Exonumia and would like to have a footprint here. Adding new coins today, with such big database is relatively hard, so I let this fun for the others.
