Is it just me or is the commonwealth series full of better looking coins than the empire series ? Of the empire the best I can see is probably the ceylon Rixdollar and Stivers or the newzealand hunter shilling and coats of arms for the company or nation, now the coats of arms are cool but not always pretty.. but when the countries gained independence and minted their own coins they are much prettier especially like the Canadian stuff still make great looking coins where the British mint has gone down hill from the days of gothic florins and nice shillings to what is now a really boring coin set that makes up the coat of arms and the bridges series isn't the best the capital cities ain't great either, the best they have produced is the Olympics 50's and the old 50p commemorating d-day i got one brand new as a kid and took it out of circulation at 4years old ! (1994)
for instance.. these are my favourite coins in my collection - you can instantly tell the Empire to Commonwealth stuff

I think it's a real shame that the 50 cents Eastern Caribbean stuff isn't silver.
Nice collection!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Empire.
Really ? Apart from the Caribbean states they're all pretty boring-looking but they are still very interesting !
Oh I disagree. It does concern aesthetics, and you clearly appreciate modern graphics more than the old, archaic, symbology-ridden designs.

Perhaps its because I'm a history student, but reading the text and symbols of the coin interests me far more than pretty pictures.

That said, not trying to say I'm right, just giving my reasons why I like the Empire coins more. In fact I'm starting to concentrate only on them.

That Victoria florin... Lord I'd love to have it. Being a student surviving on pocket money, that comes in my top three wanted list.

Btw, my friend saw your profile picture and was excited to find another Toons supporter. ONE OF US. ONE OF US.

No I really love my empire coins, I love the history behind them, but 90% of them have only coats of arms now not saying its a bad thing but the newer stuff has more artwork in it and are more basically pleasing in my opinion I was always great at history at school an had I not went down the plumbing route I probably would have got my history degree last year ! I'm only really interested in the empire and commonwealth stuff, and I have a fair bit of it now :D yeah toon supporter, that said I'm
Worried about the Man U game after fielding a stronger team than I expected in europe.. Atleast we weren't abroad !
I was inspired. Went out today and bought a Edward VII Hong Kong 5c and a George V Indian quarter anna.

The sad thing about my country is that all coin shops are priced accurately, very rarely do I find a good deal.
