Best Way Forward

Hi All,

I am a brand new member of Numista and seek some advice please. I have joined primarily because I wish to minimise the work my daughters will need to undertake when assessing the worth (or worthlessness) of a modest coin collection I have when I am no longer alive.

I understand that my new membership will also allow me to neatly categorise my collection and talk to other coin enthusiasts, and this might be fun, but is there any way this website allows you to list an approximate value to each coin or would one need to do this manually by researching each coin in turn?

The other option to I'm open to is to simply offload any coins of worth to other enthusiasts/collectors until I can simply dispose of the balance leaving my daughters with nothing to worry about.

So many households have a bunch of old coins stuck in a jar somewhere at the back of a cupboard just waiting to be tossed out by next of kin - or taken to their home to sit idle for another entire generation. I'd rather tidy everything up beforehand.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. And by the way, when I'm creating my collection is it best to accompany each coin with a photograph? What are the main details to include in the descriptions? Do other members receive an alert of some sort when someone else adds to their collection? How does this work?

Welcome!
I "inherited" a shoebox full of coins that sat there for two generations. Used to play with them as a kid and basically just hauled them with me over two continents and innumerous movings. In the meantime I retired and welcomed the opportunity (and excuse) this virus gave me to sort everything out and delve more actively into collecting.
First step takes time: adding coins you have one by one, with all the caracteristics you deem right adding, deciding about "collections" you want them to be featured in, marking "for swap" those you don't want to keep and then, maybe, starting filling the gaps by either swapping or purchasing.
Yes - time consuming, but then - fun!
Good luck!
Nice greetings and health wishes.
Nice start. Lots of resolutions and even more questions. So here you are at the right address, it just won't be right away and everything will be gradual.
Collector's passion - a hobby, it has such a special human nature, we can forgive each other and delete or avoid differences on issues of differing views on politics, gender problems, religious and all the real divisions of the world.
It's because we're mostly more experienced and we have a goal.
By this I wanted to indicate that we avoid extreme views.

Collecting is also special in that it is up to you how you choose the procedure, and what your goal and intent will be and it's really a huge distraction here. I have noticed that most experienced people back away from intent ,, quantity -and they go for quality) and silver became the majority intent in 80 % quality focusing on the collection of circulation coins.
( There are also collectors of circus and colorful nonsense that, even in hundreds of years, will tend to decline in value) and that's what it's about -everyone who likes what. I'm writing and the post office just brought me two completely circus colored coins in the middle of writing, which I succumbed to advertising - I'm ashamed.
Some questions:
the daughter will be interested? , she will enjoy it?
It's definitely not just a matter of finding a compromise -everything is not going well organize, it's a process endless.
focus and distinctiveness, and don't be ashamed to ask and choose your own solution with the choice of what suits you best.
Many explanations will help you here time and read the posts.
I am not equipped with language but I think that other colleagues will give you specific advice regarding storage, etc.
Ivan ( and I'll open the shipment-after completion)
