What commemorative coins/notes would you wish your country had?

Many countries have a lot of commemorative coins/notes, and some other barely or non at all. I think commemoratives are a great way to learn about other countries and what they find important.

The USA has eg. the State Quarters andthe America the Beautiful as theme/commemorative coins.
Most monarchies have from when their monarch have birtday, jubilee or married.
Most former colonies have an independence coin.
And eSwatini and Nepal for instance even have commemorative banknotes.

My topic for discussion is; do you, dear people of Numista, have a wish for one coin/banknote or a serie, your country should make? Intended for ciculation, of course ;)
We can learn about other countries this way too!

I can start:
Dear Royal Danish Mint
I wished we had maybe three coins each about the three countries which makes up the Kingdom of Denmark.
Or maybe 7: 5 for the administrativ regions of Denmark and one for the Faroese and one for Greenland.
Or some about the 98 communes in Denmark and one for the Faroese and Greenland, so it's 100 in total.

In general I just want a few more commemoratives, which is not neccecarily about our Royal family, but about our history and culture, including the two other countries within the Danish realm.
But I also wished for a 50 kroner banknote commemorating the 50 years our Queen has been on the throne.

I remember there is a limit, for 2 Euro coins ...

DK is not using the euros, so that's not valid. The Danes can make as many as they want....

Denmark has a permanent opt-out from joining the Eurozone - & sentiment against replacing the Krone with the Euro is very high.

Aidan.
I'm Danish, and you should hear my fellow Danes swear, everytime they go on holidays about changing DKR to EUR and then back again, if they didn't spend everything.

I wouldn't be to surprised if the Norwegians & Swedes say the same thing as the Danes do, Ole - considering all 3 languages are very similar.

Aidan.
At least the Brits don't have that problem any longerX-D They have so many other more important issues with their Brexit.

Even if Denmark used Euro, my question still stands.
Even if it's another euro using country, there is no rules. Beside; "I think my country should make a coin commorating this historic event or this person from my country"

Well, in my country, Spain, as we use the Euro we are somewhat more limited in terms of commemorative circulating currency, and even more so considering that since 2010 Spain has issued a Series dedicated to the World Heritage Sites of Spain, which are many and this series is going to last a long time.

If a parallel series could be made (since two commemorative 2 Euro coins are allowed per year), without a doubt I believe that Fauna and Flora of Spain should be chosen. My country is one of the most biodiverse European countries, and we have never had the habit of dedicating coins or anknotes to our nature, so my option would be: Animals from Spain.

For Denmark I would like to see a series with all the known kings and queens during the time!

Ole, that would be a huge series, considering the Danish monarchy has been in existence for over 1,000 years.

Aidan.
Yes, that would be nice to start a never ending series;)

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
I'm not much for commemoratives, but sure you can imagine everyone's surprise when the Riksbank in 2009 all of a sudden threw out a 1 krona coin commemorating the separation from Finland. Everyone was expecting a commemoration of the union with Norway, but no, nothing.

I would be very surprised if Sweden would issue any commemorative coins, considering that 91% of all transactions are cashless.
Will Hong Kong ever release new commemorative coins?

This year is the 25th anniversary of the Handover to China. Only the 5th Anniversary in 2002 was met with a set of commemorative $50 coins, and after that, nothing. (One can argue against this with evidence like this 2014 Year of the Horse coin, but as far as I know they are all unofficial.) And who could forget the 1997 commemorative editions? They are perhaps the only commemorative coins in general circulation today.

If Hong Kong were to make commemorative coins again, might I suggest some of the following:
* Colonial Heritage (old buildings, Noonday Gun, neon signs, snapshots of old HK, Peak Tram, etc.)
* Wildlife and Nature (some designs with the forktailed sunbird, Chinese white dolphin or other indigenous species, as well as the Hong Kong Geopark, country trails and other natural scenery)
* Famous People (think Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, etc.)
* Tradition (dragon/lion dancing, dim sum, etc.)
* Honestly I don't know what the government has in mind to emphasize a Chinese Hong Kong if it ever does a commemorative set around that idea. But given the circumstances it is more than likely that this will happen.
* Also they've featured the same bauhinia for almost 30 years now (1993-present):

Can we just have one or two one-off variations? Like with different illustrations or something. I would also like to see a different bauhinia illustration for each denomination. For example, they can go off of different angles, or more than one flower on the same coin, like these:
< Pictures are NOT my own.
Such a move will definitely increase the value of such coins as collectibles as with the present coin set it is not difficult to just have one and imagine what the others will look like given their homogeneity.

But yeah in general PLEASE give us Hongkongers more circulating commemoratives I would love to see em

This year is the 25th anniversary of the Handover to China.
Considering everything thag has happened in Hong Kong tje last years, I don't think Hong Kong is keen to celebrate anything that has to do with them being "returned" to China. It's a wonder the HKD is still even circulating.

The Hong Kong Dollar is one of the most traded currencies - & is worth more than the Chinese Renminbi Yuan.

Hong Kong is classed as a separate jurisdiction, as most laws made in Beijing don't apply to Hong Kong anyway.
