Hello 👋👋,
I want to ask why in some photographs of certified coins people who have them , cover the image of the certification number of their coins .
Do you know the reason what might be ?

I sell my Duplicate or Un-Needed coins on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/str/coinsandmorenj.
So you mean that they can copy that number
and put it in another fake slab with same type of coin and sell like it was real .
Cant such people retrieve these numbers from the sites of PCGS or NGC searching at population report sites .Those numbers are not showed there at that sites ?
They can. But they are trying to protect their coins.

I feel it's just paranoia. As previously mentioned, most certified coins will have pictures listed on the site that certified them. And chances are, they are going to be much higher quality than an eBay auction.
Counterfeiters are going to do their thing regardless if some random guy online covers a public reference number on a moderately desirable piece. Makes more sense to show it so that potential buyers can verify that specific coin against the photos in the certification database.

If you take eBay, you are allowed to show only slabs from recognized graders. Any slab that is from a grading company that is not recognized by eBay is supposed to be covered.

This was briefly discussed in a post I have just updated.

Thanks for your reply !!!

I don't talk only for auction taking place at eBay .
I see slabed coins of NGC and PCGS that their sellers cover the certification number of the slab . Can you explain to me why the policy of eBay has to do with this ? This is something that sellers do on the image of their coin not eBay .

Hello, eBay's policy at least provides a possible reason why some sellers do cover info on their slabs.

Of course, based on your observations, there are other reasons. I must say I had never noticed this, but I buy mostly on eBay. It seems to me that sellers shoot themselves in the foot when they (irrationally?) cover some info, because it looks like something fishy is going on about the coin. Grading certification numbers are meant precisely to increase confidence.

eBay's policy makes sense because of all the shady grading companies out there which basically want to please the buyer by "overgrading" their coins. There's a company based in India which is famous for that; a VF coin magically becomes an XF if you send it to them.

BTW while the name of a company might be very impressive, such as "The International Whatever Numismatic Certification Grading Experts Company", it can still be some guy in his parents' basement who buys cheap Chinese slabs and prints his own labels.
