Anyone else rely on this site a little too much?

Since I do all my buying on-line I check this site to make sure I don't already have a coin.  The problem is the last two coins I purchased I already had a copy of them because I hadn't gotten around to entering them on here yet.  That wouldn't have happened if I had done it the old-school way and actually looked at my collection.

Yeah but that's why it has a catalogue. And a forum to learn from better minds hehe !I've learned a lot over the years from forums and have saved A LOT of money through them and in the short time I've been on here I've saved a fair bit, learned a lot and met some great folk !
Yes!

I used to use a stand-alone program which managed my collection. While it was much more fully featured and had a fantastic report generator, once the novelty had worn off I realised it was much more than a simple fellow like myself needed.

I discovered Numista some time later and initially I kept both catalogs updated but it became too time consuming so after a little thought I opted for Numista. It does everything I need and most of what I want. The biggest disadvantge is not being able to see the grades during a swap.

The website has already seen a lot of improvements in the time I have been here and I'm pleased to find Numista at the top of search results when researching a coin.

What chaos there would be if the website ever went offline :)
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

:o would be more appropriate in such a case!

I myself maintain two spreadsheet lists with quality and pricing indication: my collection (including wishlist) and my duplicates. It enables me to build and balance swaps easily, and I will always have a backup if ever Numista goes offline... (the thought alone makes me :x ).

Since I'm not a high-traffic swapper, keeping Numista and my spreadsheets in sync is not too much of work.

I use the
"export your collection to Excel"  and "export your swap list to Excel"
at least once  a week as my backup. At least I will have something to start with.
