They did slightly redesign the post 2013 notes so they are a bit different from the 2002 series.

As far as I know the rules for the notes are to that the design has to depict fictional European architecture not any national design like the coins have. But in my opinion they should have one side that is standard (like the coins) of the map of Europe with the flag then the reverse with something significant from the country.

Also with a couple of countries in the line of joining the EU gang there would be a lot of different designs that you can find in use.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
What ridiculous design guidelines I hope they don't f*** this up because I am an avid cash user and have no wish to look at the stuff I can imagine they come up with.

I'd rather have the most boring banknote the world has ever seen then some woke bulls***.
In the original design contest, the theme of architectural features through the ages¹ was chosen by the ECB, so designers had small room for creativity. Trying to be politically and culturally neutral, the result was cold and lacking humanity.

I think we could see better contenders if designers could should from a wider and more diverse set of themes.

As far as I understand, not every country/national central bank emit every denomination, so we'd have countries with many designs and other countries with just one design, or none at all (if that country's central bank just emit coins).

It would be interesting, though, if a mini-flag was added to the banknotes for easier identification by general population.

¹ There was a second theme, called "abstract/modern".
Looking forward to them! Maybe more "holograms" would make it look more interesting, I don't know. B)

I suspect the new design will be on a polymer substrate with tactile features to assist the visually impaired. I do like European & pre-Euro currency (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy & Ireland to name a few) so I hope they can come up with a design that is a little more interesting (maybe vertical like the Swiss notes).

I LMAO over the Simpson's satirical design @Idolenz

While I agree that the designs of the originals were anything but flashy, borderline dull, I liked their initial short-lived "Duisenberg" signature release plus the individual national prefixes & their unique printer's codes. It took me a bit of time to understand how they were issued & why the 1st series are so collectible but EuroBillTracker helped a lot.

Looking forward to the new design series.

I will be collecting the 5 Euros from Cyprus, Ireland, & Malta.

I agree with you
I wish that member states could have a national side on the banknotes...

It would be nice - & I would definitely know the ones for Cyprus, Ireland, & Malta to collect.

Generic designs with no indication of nationality are totally bland & soulless.

Aidan.
Whenever anyone says woke, I think of this!

The cover of the Childish Gambino album which had the hit Redbone and the line "Don't stay woke - n***as creepin, they gon fine you, gon catch u sleepin".

That note was some Simpsons graphic. I don't agree with sentiment though, they notes should show a modern Europe, diverse, green and open minded. This Islamophobia and neo racism movement of the 2010s needs to go. Europe is supposed to be leading the world in its progressiveness and openness, not a breeding grown for white supremacy and intolerance.

I think old buildings are too much harking back to the glories of old Europe. Notes should have scenes peculiar to each country rather than the post modernistic dryness of French, Dutch and German brutalistic glass block design of the 1980s and 1990s.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

At least in the same manner Islam is openminded and cathedrals being built in all the islamic countries.
Please stop with the slamming of various religions - as that really gets a lot of people angry.

Dejan, you should know better, considering Judaism is an Abrahamic religion as is Islam.

Aidan.
I agree Dejan - not on.

For every bad Muslim, there is 1 or more bad Christians - paedophile priests, abusive church orphanages and care homes, born again money cult churches robbing their parishoners. Ultra Christian bigots attacking Muslims, Hindus, Jewish people etc. So called loving Christians persecuting gays, abortionists, euthanasia supporters, socialists, atheists, satanists and transgender people, some even resort to racism.

Sadly Numista seems to be a hideout for racist and intolerant views by some members. The moderators and administrators should do something about it and weed out the racism and intolerance. As this is a coin collecting site, it is assumed most contributors are white European men and boys, that is no excuse to openly slam people who are not male or white.

Take me, Brown, gay and gender diverse (Also a lapsed Catholic/Jew who is Atheist/Satanist).

These Euro notes should reflect a changing society and the dynamism of the WHOLE human race not just white people and Christian white people only.

I like identifiable places on banknotes. Beautiful views of beautiful scenery. That's what I wish they would show.

Amraan, I get where you are coming from.

The Euro banknote designs have from the beginning been pretty soulless - up there with the American banknote desgns for being the most dull & boring.

I like banknote designs that help showcase culture & a sense of place - as well as to express an identity & a story about the country.

I do too, but I have a problem with all religions and their dogma, yet I will always protect the right of people to practice them as long as they do not insult or denigrate religions they are not a part of.

Same with race, no one should be attacked because of immutable biological factors - yet Europe (Especially Eastern Europe and Russia) is filling up with racists (Poles using refugees as a pawn in a border dispute with Belarus, Russians beating up Central Asians and gays, Hungary closing borders, far right politicians in Germany and Austria, the UKIP crowd in the UK for a few examples).

I think the notes should show the following.

1. Nature and Biological zones (Alps, Steppes, Plains, Coasts, Pineforest etc)
2. Animals (Bears, Wolves, Dogs, Snakes, Marine Life, Deer)
3. Maps through time
4. Minerals and resources of Europe

Nice neutral topics that stay away from architecture (A church will no doubt show up and anger non Christian Europeans including the mostly atheist Northwest and Northern Europeans), and personalities especially generals and some people who may be heroes in one country but butchers in others (Eg, Ghenghis Khan, Napoleon, Nelson etc).

Another reason why religion should stay out of banknotes, a map showing the religions of Europe (Based on most dominant one) as you can see, its 3 main christian sects (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox) and pockets of Muslims, Jews and Bhuddists.

And this is assuming that everyone practices when in NW and W Europe rates are under 20% whilst only in Russia and southern Europe are rates of practice high as in the Islamic areas outside the stans.

Yeah. A nation should be able to choose their national side design...

I really like your suggestion of natural themes @moneytane, or perhaps parts of the human body (like a hand, or eye, etc) which points to physical sciences, or nature, as seen with the Swiss 2015-2018 (9th) series (eg: 100 Francs) with vertical designs. These notes won IBNS awards for their heightened security & innovative designs. What I like about one side being vertical is it truly shows a departure from the old conventional formats.
