Humor: Nephew's coin collection...

I arrived for Thanksgiving well armed to help my 11year old nephew with his coin collection. Apparently he and PopPops had started collecting as a "together" activity but PopPops is not all that interested in more than handing coins to the nephew to make him happy. However PopPops was thrilled that said nephew would make some friends his age by collecting coins (because this is a common activity for 11year olds?).

And so PopPops asked his neighbors for coins too.

11+ pounds later....B. I spent the night sorting showing the kiddo how to use Numista to identify coins. And we found a dozen silver coins in the pile so far. I'm a little jealous. :8D I brought him some coin capsules for storage and such. He might be hooked forever? X-D We will see. At least I know what to get him for Christmas this year! ;)

I got to say, slowing the kiddo down long enough to identify the coins was hard. "Aunt Liz, what is this coin!" Before I can even tell him, "Aunt Liz, what is this coin?"

Excellent way to learn history, geography, art, fauna... and order - through play. I remember evenings spent with my father sorting stamps; learned so much more than I could just in school!
Great anecdote of an emerging coin collector. That's so cool he had so many pounds of change to sort through too (& snagged some silver? Really, hard to believe that silver still circulates in the USA after being out of circulation for so long). He's lucky to have a "PopPops" & aunt to guide his journey. Thanks for sharing.

So last night I asked him for 6 coins from the 11+ pounds (international) coins. They were all duplicates too.
"What will you trade me for them?" was his immediate response. B.:O
Kid's been playing Pokémon forever and it taught him well!
