How to store coinholders?

5 posts • viewed 165 times
Hi!
So far, I have stored my coins in carton coin holders (Hartberger, Leuchtturm,...), and put those coin holders in a plastic A4 sheet with pockets inside an album. But I have increased my collection quite a lot in the last months, and I don't see myself buying 20x more albums to follow the same process.
Do you have any recommendation on how to store high quantities of coins (+3000), preferably on those coin holders? Maybe some box existing already that can store big amount of coin holders?
Thanks for your advice in advance!
Andres
Usually I am using recycled cardboard boxes, tiny chest of drawers, boxes with several compartments (as the one used by the fisherman to store the various kinds of baits and hooks), but the I have found a nice solution: special boxes

"Carton" coin holders? Those can't be stored in the albums you speak of... Do you mean the below storage method?

If so I may be able to offer a solution

Correct, sorry for my bad explanation.
I feel like that method is okay when your collection is not that big.
But when you are well over 3000 coins, that means you need at least 150 of those "plastic sheets" where the coin holders are inserted, and you will need a few albums to keep the plastic sheets there.
Also, depending on your storage order method, when you get a new couple of coins, you will have to shift coin holders in a few of those sheets to include them in the right position...
So any alternative like the previous user is welcomed, although I am targeting to not spend that much (I would need +300€ and 30 of that boxes to do so).

I had the exact same problem. Part of my coin collection (around 100 coins or so) is stored in cardboard holders and it's hard to swap things around. So I switched to this method, inspired by the local coin dealer:

This setup occupies part of a drawer. I made some DIY cardboard dividers and then superglued them together. Then the coins are sorted according to monarch, and then sorted further according to face value (low to high) and year (old to new). At its maximum capacity this drawer can hold an estimated 400 coins. Adding a coin is as easy as pulling out the drawer and slipping the new addition in right where you want it.

You'd probably spend the majority of your budget on the drawers themselves if you happen to not have any, and the cardboard can just be any old cardboard cut from a discarded box. Tape is also an alternative to stick the dividers together.
