Some connection to Spain as HISPANIARVM ET INDIARVM REX is on first side.
On the other side the large 8 to the right of the shield is 8 Reales denomination.

8 Escudos

Not exactly similar, as yours has 8 not VIII but quite close.

Thank you. Where would someone go to get something like this validated or appraised
If you can report the weight and diameter, that can help rule in/out whether it is authentic.

The next step can be to go to a local coin dealer near you and ask him or her to take a look, check that it is really gold, etc.. If yes, they can also help you sent it to a company for certification and grading.

Most likely the answer will be that this is a replica, and not a real coin, based on its appearance (maybe someone else on the forum here will confirm that and save you the effort).
It’s already been checked and is real gold.

what on the appearance makes it likely to be a replica?
As pointed out by @ZacUK, the gold 8 escudo has VIII, not 8.

The entire reverse is wrong. It should either be a Jerusalem cross: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1623870
or should like the reverse linked earlier. It resembles neither.

The design looks like an attempt to copy the reverse of a silver coin: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces53668.html

Lastly, look at the quality of workmanship.

Who told you it was gold? My guess would be this is a replica of an 8 reales coin that was plated to look like an 8 escudo coin.

A coin exchange shop tested it. This one looks different than the other two which have the markings you showed me. That’s why I posted it wondering why it’s like that. If it’s fake at least it’s still worth it’s weight in gold
Agreed. Hopefully nobody paid a price approaching the value of a real one.

haha yeh. They were inherited with a crazy story behind it which is probably fugazi. I just wanted to know what they were. The other gold ones look like the one in the link. Just something that will get passed on to my kids.
