Dubai and North Yemen: UNICEF, Redonda Rotary, Manama Rotary opts on WINTER Olympics incl souvenir sheet, Iraq International Labor Organization souvenir sheet. No scans

1. This one from personal knowledge and experience. When the Bagong Hukbong Bayan were very active in northern Luzon, what did travelers arriving at their destinations ask the residents?

2. What colony has a law specifying a different name for the colony to be used on all its postage stamps issued for more than the last 50 years than the official name of the colony?

First entry with both correct answers arriving at or before August 4, 2021 at noon eastern US time wins. Correct answers can be spread across more than 1 response. If there is no correct response with both answers, the first response to both questions wins. My decision as to the winner is final. Good luck to all who participate!

Still working on #1

For #2 I thought about Taiwan because they put Republic of China on their stamps. But then I saw you're talking about a colony... And Taiwan is not a colony that I know of 😆

I'll figure it out 😎, just need time!!!
Both of these are tough questions. (Absolutely brilliant fun as well)
I want someone to win so I'll add some hints.

Number 1: The English name of the group is New People's Army and the question travelers asked was based on the initials.

Number 2: The law about the name of the colony on postage stamps was implemented in 1968 and required a third word to be added to the official name, which two-word name is still used today.

Can someone figure out the answers? Good luck!

I found the answer for number 2!!

It's Virgin Islands.
Until 1967 the country's name on stamps was simply Virgin Islands.
From 1968 onwards the country's name on stamps became British Virgin Islands.
For #1 I go with 'Where's the pasta?', for NPA could be National Pasta Association 😁

Good find for #2, but I found this stamp from 1951 that says 'British Virgin Islands'?

But still the most likely candidate for #2

Ok, I looked at Virgin Islands' stamps again and this 1951 series is the only time before 1968 where the country name is "British Virgin Islands".
My decision may be somewhat controversial but I declare Newtony the winner, with a nonsense answer to 1 and guess of Taiwan to number 2.

Your stamps will be on the way soon, Tony. Congratulations!

I hope you participate in future giveaways!

Answer to number 1: "Are there Nice People Around?" Code for New People's Army. I was on a guided tour in Luzon run by Germans. The Germans were well-liked by the New People's Army and so were able to travel in areas they were prevalent in. The tour guide always asked about Nice People Around in case we were likely to run into roadblocks by the insurgents. She said it was a common way of asking about the insurgents whereabouts.

Answer to number 2: Giobruno had it right! Virgin Islands is still the official name. My friend, you should have made a guess to number 1, then you would have won. Try again in future giveaways.

I'm very happy that you announced me to be the winner! But I also feel a bit ashamed...
So can I persuade you to send the stamps to Giobruno instead? I value knowledge above speed and I was just lucky enough to be the first to answer. My answers however weren't even close while Giobruno had the second one correct!

Still a lot of fun though 😁

You don't need to worry about that.

Ok, to me it was like when your team wins the decisive match but still doesn't advance to the next phase due to some tiebreaker rule, but you still won fair.
I was so focused on searching the answer for #2 last night (had completely given up on #1), that I didn't noticed that you got qualified for the tiebreak.
I will stick with Newtony as the winner. In fact the stamps are ready to drop in the mail now. Both of you will have plenty of chances to win in the future. I think you both like the chase of answers as much as the winning.

Ok then Giobruno and Coinman48, I can respect that! Thank you both 😉
