Niuafo'ou is the northernmost island of Tonga. It has postal independence even though population is around 500.

The Michel Australia Oceania Antarctica catalogue for 2016 lists the set price for numbers 52-55 and Block 2 at 12.80 Euros.

The Tongan government evacuated the island between 1946 and 1947. Why? When did about half the population return?

First correct answers by noon on July 8, 2021 will be declared the winning entry. If there is no correct answer, the earliest response will win. Responses in English only, please. My decision as to winning entry is final. Thanks for participating.
Because of a volcanic eruption on Monday 9 September 1946.

In 1949 the Government offered the refugees a large tract of bushland on Eua Island and half of them built new villages there. The other half continued to press the Government for permission to return to their homeland Niuafo'ou and this was finally effected in 1958.
